Best man's speech

for basky and luching....

Good afternoon/evening everyone, before anything else I would like to say three words…

(pause)

You know? Sense. (pause)

I will explain those words later.

I was surprised when they officially picked me to be the best man on their wedding, however, I should pass all the requirements:

Number 1. I should prepare a speech, in English.

Number 2. I should have a wedding gift

Number 3. I should wear a suit with and a white shirt

And

Number 4. I should Send out invitations to our common friends.

Luanne and Seigfred, but for me, I call them Luching and Basky. Two of my most talented friends.

Luanne can write the most poetic literature known to man that is also vocabulary challenging for us mortals and

Seigfred can melt anyone’s heart with his voice and song compositions. Personally.

They’re a perfect couple that has similar interest in the art of prose and lyric poetry.

So how do you think they’ve met?

It started with an online blog post from Luching, a journal on the internet on January 2006 that caught My attention and Basky’s.

You see, we’re all members of this internet online community that our good friend Luis created. For more queries about online community you can ask Luis later, for now, on with the story.

Basky asked me if I know the female who posted those blog-like threads.

I answered him, not yet, but we’ll soon find out.

After the initial Hi and Hello, I finally gathered enough information from the Lady Blogger, who’s name is Luching and passed it to Basky.

Basky then asked me, how Luching looked like?

I then asked Luching if she had a Friendster account for us to view, she did, and I passed it to Basky again.

Out of the blue, Basky told me he likes Luching. I’m amazed how quickly he felt something for the Lady Blogger with big arms. I told him that Luching is not the easy girl type, she’s the kind of woman you need to be serious to. Of course those heavy arms added some scare.

Basky never bugged me about the lady bouncer... err... lady blogger afterwards.

several weeks passed until one of them admitted that they’re dating.

few more days and they both told me that they’re in love.

Here’s a glimpse on their hourly date. I guess Luching still remembers this…

25 floors down

P7.50 pesos jeepney fare

872 steps in 3-inch heels

1 escalator ride up

72 steps to the right

200 bucks for a kid with hydrocephalus

14 people in front

3 stations away

44 steps up 2 flights

1 flight down

4 flights up

a glassful of sweat

for an hour with you.

was it worth it?

yes, oh yes.

And everything’s happy. Songs were written for each other. Prose and poetry can be read from them, and a person’s back was almost broken.

Then came the news, Luching need to go to Australia, and Basky was left behind. At that moment I can feel their sadness, their confusion.

Basky consulted me about asking Luching to marry him. I thought it was just a joke.

And he insisted that I’ll be the best man. I told him to marry Luching with the right reasons.

A series of trips to Iloilo and Cotabato happened afterwards, the couple told me Basky proposed. Luching’s happy, and her mom… well let’s just say Basky did charm Luching’s family.

It’s January, and Luching went to Australia, leaving Basky behind, with 85 days. 85 days of sacrifice, 85 days of separation, 85 blog post of promises, and 85 days of looking for ways to earn money for the marriage and for him to follow Luching in Australia.

Basky was so eager to earn money that he asked us all if any of us have freelance jobs for:

  • Web Content Writer/Manager
  • Voice Talent/Audio Video Production
  • Events Planning and Management
  • Copywriting
  • brick laying, digging a hole, carpentry, mixing cement
  • just not that heavy work coz he broke his back just last year

Luching on the other hand, hastily looked for a job to earn fast cash for both of them.

Before the 85 days was up, Basky’s breezes thru all the documents, travel papers, medical exams, wet under wears, and he’s already at Australia with the contented Luching’s back in his arms again.

Fast forward now, and we’re all here to witness their church wedding.

I guess most of you will say they’re a great couple that was really meant for each other. They have similar interests, similar hobbies, both have great family background, good education. They like poetry, music, words specially. One can cook the other loves to eat. Know how to communicate well, they understand each other, and they really-really love each other.

But for me, they’re the perfect couple because of their flaws, their mistakes, their hardships, and their willingness to sacrifice just to be together. They challenged each other to meet their goals in a limited amount of time and successfully met them. On every problem they encountered, they try to solve it together with minimal bloodsheds.

I guess that’s what makes them special, it makes them unique and strong, that makes them blissful… and that will bind them together for a long… long… long time.

Before I raise a toast to the newly weds, earlier, I mentioned the words “you know, sense” In case none of you appreciates this speech, at least it has sense.

A toast to the newly weds, Luanne and Siegfred. Let all the nice things that I said happen to you and many more blessings from HIM. (point your finger above)
